Francois Bretault

Francois Bretault is a dedicated interfaith advocate and one of the founding Board members of the Centre for Interfaith Understanding (CIFU). He served as the Chairperson from 2022-2024.

With over 20 years of experience in promoting interfaith dialogue, Francois believes that faith can give an amazing strength to build a better world and bring people closer, as long as it is not antagonistic but humble enough to recognise its shortcomings with a good sense of humour.

Originally from France, he has been living in Singapore for more than 30 years. He is married to Catherine, a Singaporean, and together they have a son. The rich diversity of Singapore is something Francois deeply values and considers an asset and strength.

Professionally, Francois is a passionate educator, teaching French language and culture in various schools and universities. He is also an active member of the Catholic community and has been involved with the World Wide Marriage Encounter Singapore, an organisation dedicated to enhancing communication and deepening emotional connections among couples.

Francois' journey into interfaith work began with an initial desire to become a Catholic priest, spending three years in a seminary. This background has significantly influenced his approach to interfaith dialogue and advocacy.
